35 Key Questions Addressed: Implementation Q&A on China's Food Labeling Supervision and Administration Measures Released

On August 28, 2026, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) released the Implementation Q&A on the Food Labeling Supervision and Administration Measures (hereinafter referred to as the "Implementation Q&A"). The Q&A addresses 35 key issues of concern to food businesses, including the relationship between the Food Labeling Supervision and Administration Measures (hereinafter referred to as the "Measures") and the National Food Safety Standard General Standard for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods (GB 7718-2025), as well as requirements concerning date labeling, food names, producer information, and health food labeling. Indonesia Issues Draft Decree on Guidelines for the Implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System for Genetically Modified Products

On August 28, 2026, Indonesia submitted WTO notification G/TBT/N/IDN/192 concerning a draft decree on guidelines for the implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System for genetically modified products. The draft establishes an operational framework for mandatory halal certification of genetically modified products in sectors including food, beverages, medicines and cosmetics. The deadline for comments is October 27, 2026.

South Korea Proposes to Revise the Hygiene Inspection Standards and Hygiene Evaluation Methods for OEM-Imported Foods

On September 2, 2026, South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Notice No. 2026-433, proposing to revise the Hygiene Inspection Standards and Hygiene Evaluation Methods for OEM-Imported Foods, etc. The public consultation period will run until September 22, 2026.
